Our breakfast, recognized as the Best Boutique Hotel Breakfast in Spain at Madrid Fusion 2026

In January of this year, we received the award for Best Boutique Hotel Breakfast in Spain 2026 at Madrid Fusión, before an overwhelming cast of finalists and by decision of the jury presided over by José Carlos Capel.

A few months later, we looked back to analyze the award and what it meant for this small project. Besides the enormous satisfaction for our entire team and the impetus to continue working from this little corner of the Costa da Morte, it has undoubtedly been a turning point. Initially, our breakfast was solely and exclusively for hotel guests. This award and its huge impact opened the door for us to offer the service to non-guests as well, and the success has been as unexpected as it has been overwhelming.
This award, given within the framework of Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España, distinguishes those establishments that elevate breakfast to an authentic gastronomic experience, valuing aspects such as the quality of the product, the identity of the proposal, the service and the coherence with the hotel project.
A breakfast that speaks of our territory
From the very beginning of this project, we knew that our breakfast, like the rest of our cuisine, should reflect our location. Every morning, we create a menu based on local products, small-scale artisanal production, and freshly prepared recipes. There's no standard buffet or repetitive experience. We like each breakfast to have something unique, always respecting the season and the natural rhythm of the ingredients.
Freshly cut fruit, artisan breads from Forniños, Nela 's homemade jams, artisan Galician cheeses, and a variety of sweet and savory treats that change daily are all part of an experience designed to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. And of course, Silvia's filloas... thin, crispy, freshly made, accompanied by Puramel , Galicia's most awarded honey—a true delight.

Facing the Atlantic
Just as important as what we serve is the place where we serve it. Our dining room, open to the landscape of Balarés beach, allows you to enjoy breakfast with the Atlantic light streaming through the windows, the sounds of birds, and the sea as a backdrop. This setting is an integral part of the experience, transforming each morning into a moment of calm and contemplation.
Perhaps that's why so many of our guests tell us that breakfast ends up becoming one of the most special memories of their stay. Honestly, while we're serving it, we also sense that calm and enjoyment. It's a truly wonderful moment where the guest is genuinely receptive and allows us to truly enjoy our work.

An award for a family project
Behind this recognition are many hours of work, learning and enthusiasm.
Hotel Balarés was born with the vocation to create a small gastronomic refuge on the Costa da Morte, a place where hospitality, local produce and respect for the environment would be the fundamental pillars of the experience.
Having our breakfast recognized as the best in Spain in the boutique hotel category by a specialized jury is a source of enormous pride for our family and for all the people who collaborate with us every day.
Achieving such great things from such small places is incredibly rewarding. We're especially thrilled to put Balarés and Ponteceso on the national tourist and gastronomic map. Sometimes we forget that electricity only arrived here in 1995!... how things have changed...

This award also belongs to those who visit us. To the guests who trust us for their getaways, to those who return time and again, and to the local producers, bakers, artisans, and suppliers who help us create an authentic experience each morning, deeply connected to the land.
We will continue working with the same philosophy with which we started: taking care of every detail, respecting the product and offering sincere hospitality in one of the most special places in Galicia.
And our breakfast service will continue to operate for guests and non-guests alike, with all the love in the world.
